Fine Art Estates Advanced Search Feature

FineArtEstates.com is an innovative, web-based marketplace specializing in fine art from artists’ estates and private and public collections.

The Problem

This client’s website had been developed years before I arrived at the company, so I was a little nervous when the client came to me and asked to upgrade the existing search function. I was also working as the project manager for FAE at the time, so I was entrusted with taking the lead for this project.

The Solution

I worked one-on-one with the client to develop the very specific interaction design for this upgrade. We had to battle with the Guide Me tab, which was designed to open automatically under certain settings, as well as the limited space in the mobile layout. Eventually, we landed on a design that allowed for the detailed search abilities he desired, without sacrificing a smooth user experience.
